Biography

Josep Valor Sabatier is Professor Emeritus of Operations, Information, and Technology at IESE in Barcelona. He has trained executives since joining in 1985 and has held several leadership positions at IESE.  During the 1992-93 and 1996-97 academic years, Josep also served as a visiting professor at MIT’s Sloan School of Management, where, in addition to conducting research, he taught courses on strategy and information technologies in the master’s program.

Between 2015 and 2020, Prof. Valor worked from IESE’s New York Campus, where he marketed and developed customized courses for companies such as Janssen Pharmaceutica, Siemens Healthineers, ESPN, Oracle, Harman, Icelandair, and Michelin, among others.

Valor holds a Ph.D. in Operations Research from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a Doctor of Science (Sc.D.) in Medical Engineering from the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology. He is the author of numerous scientific and popular articles and the co-author of five books, in both Spanish and English, on Process Innovation and Information Systems.

Prof. Valor combines his academic activities with consultancy in the management of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), having advised numerous companies on investment and competitive advantage development related to ICT.  Josep has served on the boards of the consulting firm Avantia (2003-2007) and the Agency for Healthcare Quality and Assessment of Catalonia (AQUAS) (2011-2015).
